Under the Influence and Above Suspicion - Find and Help the Addict in your Family

    America is embroiled in an unrelenting battle against addiction and controlled substance. The most notable signs of this conflict are considered newsworthy and are also under the intense study of scientific professionals. Therefore I will not waste your time with news about the War against Drugs (and how sadly we are losing the battle), or the intensity with which science is trying to conquer drug abuse through the use of chemistry, which is simply substituting addictive "street drugs" with addictive synthetic "medications" (I will not even mention what a huge failure methadone turned out to be, as science searched for a cure against heroin). This writing is intended to address the issue of addiction and habitual abuse as it pertains to the average American family, and how God's Word gives us sure and certain warning signs that a friend or family member may be involved with a destructive addiction while we ignore, disregard or make excuses for their strange and erratic behavior.

    Many of us just cannot and will not believe that our husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, children and grand-children could possibly be under the influence of addiction, until it often becomes too late to find help for them. The problems associated with addiction are not new. People and their family's have been terrorized by addiction and abusive habits throughout the history of civilization. Many people are surprised to learn that the Bible gives us very accurate warning signs pertaining to addictive behavior. One such reference can be found in the Godly wisdom that Solomon was trying to impart to his children. It is found in the book of Proverbs, chapter 23, verses 29 through 35. Although these warnings were originally a reference to alcohol abuse, they are most certainly the same signs we can look for in any type of addictive or habitual behavior (By the way, verses 27 and 28 are references to addictive sexual behavior). A thoughtful reading of these verses of scripture will reveal a list of behaviors that we can be mindful of as our family's face the very same temptations that have existed for thousands of years. I will first quote the portion of scripture mentioned above, and then we will analyze the implications and signals we can find in them. This will help us learn How to Spot the Addict in your family, church or circle of friends.

Proverbs 23:29-35
(29)  Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
(30)  They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
(31)  Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
(32)  At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
(33)  Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
(34)  Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
(35)  They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

    Let us now make a comparable list based on this scripture:

1. Who has Sadness, Misery and Despair? Who exhibits irrational Fear?

2. Who has Guilt and Shame but denies it?

3. Who is always looking for a fight? Who is always at the center of any Conflict and would Argue about nothing and or anything?

4. Who is always "running off at the mouth" about utter foolishness (talking to themselves or just babbling on and on about unimportant matters)? Who always has to have the last word, even if the words don't make any sense?

5. Who believes they are "being picked on for no reason"? Who "wears their feelings on their sleeve"? Who is Angry and Bitter without just cause?

6. Whose Pupils are dilated or has Red Eyes and weird yellowish spots? Who has baggy or sunken eyes?

7. Who do you know that is always swearing that they will never do that again? Example: Have you ever heard a person with a hangover swear that they were never going to get that drunk again... only to repeat the process over and over again each Friday night. Do you know a person that loses all control when it comes to certain items, such as Food, Sex, Gambling, Sports, Tobacco, Prescription Medications, etc...?

8 Who seems to always be complaining of illness with no symptoms of normal colds, flu's, etc...?

9. Who has a compulsion to have sex with your closest friends and complete strangers (one night stands)?

10. Who is paranoid and always blaming other people for the messes they seem to always be mixed up in (continual strife)?

11. Who's life seems to always be "on the edge"?

12. Who thinks the most important element in life is the next Drink, Fix, Pill, Snort, etc... and centers their life around obtaining it?

    God has certainly given us quite an exhaustive list of addictive behaviors to look for. If you know anyone that is exhibiting two more of these behaviors, it is very likely that they are in over their head with an addiction or habit. People always begin addictive behaviors thinking that they can control them. It is not long until the addiction takes over the mind, will and emotions and people start to get hurt. The person that is addicted will always claim to be in complete control, but their behavior will always show the opposite to be the truth. An addicted person will always claim that they are only hurting themselves, as they leave a trail of broken hearts and destroyed lives behind them.

    Things only get worse when the friends and family of addicts continue to make excuses for their behavior. When a husband or wife claims that their spouse couldn't be here because they are too tired or too sick, and we know that they were out partying the night before. When a family member claims that they deserved the abuse they received for some reason. When a mother claims that her son is just going through a tough time right now. A co-dependent is someone that has become addicted to addictive  behavior from someone close to them. The last thing an addict needs is someone continually making excuses for their destructive behavior. If the addict continues to get away with his bad habits and behavior, it only postpones the inevitable.

    An addict will eventually lose everything (and everyone) they love and care about. Bit by bit, one piece at a time, they begin to lose jobs, homes, friends and family until there is nothing left but the addiction. And addictions are not just limited to drugs and alcohol. Any addiction or habit can take control of a person's life. When you begin to see the symptoms that are listed above, you can be certain that people are going to be hurt. While the addict poisons their self, they also leave a trail of broken families that may never truly recover from their ordeal.

    It is sad for me to watch as family after family fall victim to destructive habits and addictions. I can offer counsel while a person is still in the Habit Phase, but I must confess that I am often baffled as to how I can help once they are a full-blown addict. I know that God's Word holds the key to breaking the cycle of addiction, but it often takes people with personal experience to reach out and really offer help an addict. That is why I am so happy to have crossed paths with a Christian man that has been there and knows how to use the Bible to help people overcome addiction. God always uses people with special gifts to reach out to those that we cannot seem to help.

    Even though an addict is under the influence, they often believe they are above suspicion. We can help them by getting involved and revealing to them that we know they have a problem.     Starting and maintaining an Online Biz definitely takes some work. But as long as you are willing to work a little, and learn the methods that you will be comfortable using to promote your VMC Satellite Dish Biz, you can begin to earn some extra money. Learning to Excel with Chronic Illness - Overcoming the Blahs, Blues and Depression

    An Optimist calls it the Blahs

    A Pessimist call it the Blues

    A person who is giving up calls it Depression

    My Blog entry today is partly a method of therapy that I have learned to implement on troublesome days, and partly an attempt to help those who may be suffering through transition in their life due to illness, financial decrease, family troubles or any other circumstance that would threaten to overwhelm your Mind, Will, and Emotions.

    It has been a very tough year for me, as my life is in a constant state of transition due Fibromyalgia and the Economy. When it comes to my work, I have always tried to follow the Bible principle that states, "whatever labor you do with your hands, do it with all your might". I have always tried to give more then was expected of me. I have always tried to excel beyond other people's expectations for me. The chronic pain and fatigue of Fibromyalgia has limited my abilities and at times I feel somewhat worthless. Some days I am not even able to achieve my own expectations, much less those of others. Feeling inadequate can definitely affect your mind, will and emotions. It is a constant daily struggle to remind ourselves that God can help us overcome, even in the worst circumstances.

    When we are weak:

2Co 12:10  Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

    The Bible is my only solace on days like today, when I feel weak and useless. Learning to Excel when we feel like Crap is truly a battle for our will. God's Word tells us that His Grace is sufficient to cover our Need. My Mind and Emotions are trying to tell me that I Need to stay in bed and hide from the world of my troubles. But God's promise is that I can overcome the negative thinking and depressive emotions that cause most people to give up and give in to their problems, because it is not only illness that brings such thoughts and feelings, but any transition that takes place in our lives. Our minds and emotions do not like change. But change is the only constant in God's universe. When we are suffering through transitions in life, we must remember that God can use our weakness to bring Him Glory. If we allow ourselves to be used of God, even on the days that our problems would overwhelm us, He will make a positive out of a negative. "When we are weak", God is able to show His strength to give us the power to overcome. What is your problem today? Is it an illness, a lost job or a dysfunctional relationship? As humans beings, we have a very narrow and limited view of life and we sometimes cannot imagine how God can work a miracle for us in our present state of being. The Bible assures us that God sees and knows all things pertaining to our life, and that He has the power to turn our weakness into His strength (if we are willing to abide in Him). God's principles for living our lives are the only effective means of overcoming our thoughts, actions and motives. Here are three techniques to help rid ourselves of thoughts and feelings of defeat that can limit our ability to work on the tasks that need to get done (no matter how we feel). 

2Co 10:5  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
2Co 10:6  And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

    Affirmative Thoughts:

    God reminds us here that we cannot allow our thoughts of illness, needs, distresses, etc... to overwhelm us. We must take a firm stance in our own responsibility to control our own thoughts. Affirmative and Godly thinking is the beginning of the process that leads to victory over any circumstance. Control your thoughts instead of allowing them to control you and thereby affecting your emotions.

   Emotional Control:

    These verses are also a reminder that if we allow our emotions to control us, we are elevating our thoughts above the thoughts of God Himself. Are we smarter than God? No, we do not have the knowledge or foresight that God possesses. When we allow ourselves the "luxury" of negative thoughts and emotions, we are basically saying that God is not strong enough or smart enough to help us in our time of need. Our emotions take over when we neglect that God is in complete control and that He does have Love for us that gives us the power and the will to overcome. Don't allow your emotions to hold you hostage. Take control of your emotions with affirmative thoughts and God will be able to give us His Power.

    Will to Obey, Obey to have Will:

    When we speak of the human will, we are speaking of a person's active decision making process. How will you decide to function and live today> Many of us are tempted to give up when times get tough. This is due to human conditioning that we are essentially helpless and hopeless unless we have health, money and influence. You have been conditioned by life to expect less than God is willing to give you. God loves you and wants to give you Joy, Peace and Plenty. However, we often cannot receive God's Best, because we feel like we are at our Worst. Controlling your Thoughts gives you power to win back your positive emotions. It is only when we have allowed God to rescue us from our selfish thinking and emotions that we then have the power to make positive decisions that can not only help us, but will also be a great influence on the people around us. Bring every thought under control that you may be on top of your emotions and actually accomplish something worthwhile today... Something that has eternal value.

    What we learn here, and what I am reminding myself of, is the fact that we have to choose how we will think, feel and act each day. Will we give in to temptation and lay in bed thinking of our terrible problems and how they are not allowing us to function because we are so depressed. Or will we seize upon God's promise of Victory through the process of controlling our thoughts, actions and decisions? God wants us to be happy, at peace and actively involved in steering the course of our life... Don't let Anything stand in the way of your Blessings. Not Illness, Not Money, and certainly not the Actions and Decisions of other people. Take Control and Take Action to Receive God's Blessings of Abundance.

    I did not feel well when I woke up today. I did not think I could do my job. I did not have motivation to work and help others. I did not have anything positive to add to my life or the life of my family and friends until I reminded myself that God is in control and that He has the power to give me the complete victory over my Illness by learning what His Word teaches about the human soul and our responsibility to use His Strength to Overcome my thoughts, emotions and will... I Now have my day back and I feel so much better.

    I have been a bi-vocational pastor for more years than I care to expound upon. I have always worked a full-time job and tried to be efficient as possible as a pastor, however, our church has really grown this year and the need for me to be available for visitations and counseling has been greater than ever. I have been praying for God to provide a way for me to spend more time being available to the church. Time is always the enemy of a bi-vocational pastor. The big caveat I have always faced is that the church was not able to pay me, so I have always worked a full-time job in the flooring industry.

    With a failing economy, the bottom has fallen out of the flooring biz, and I have not been able to properly provide for my families needs. I have always had great faith in God's ability to turn any negative situation into a positive outcome, but I just did not see how God was going to enable me to have more time for the church, and be able to work and provide for my family. God has always provided a way for us to have the things we need, but recently it has been necessary for me to immerse myself into my regular job, just to make ends meet. Work has trickled down to a very slow drip and I have had to work twice as hard to make ends meet. A struggle of faith developed in my soul, and I just did not see a way out. I kept speaking words of faith based on God's promises, but things just looked more and more impossible. I knew He would provide for us, but I began to get somewhat worried about going out to find another job. Who would hire a fifty-two year old man with fibromyalgia anyway? I am no longer able to do heavy manual labor because of the fibromyalgia and there just don't seem to be any jobs in my area for a man of my abilities. Let me be clear that even though my job was not producing much income, we have always been able to meet our obligations, God has always provided for our needs, but now God has even provided me with the thing I needed most. I needed more time to attend to the needs of the church, and the Lord has now provided that.

    The Bible clearly tells us to be thankful in all things and in all ways. I am currently more thankful than ever. Through other means and methods, God has provided me the time I needed as a pastor. I am not completely a full-time pastor yet, but by faith, I see that day coming sooner than later. God always surprises His children with great blessings, and He never seems to work out a situation in any way that we can imagine in our minds. This is the wonderful Glory of God's Grace. When we have a need, we always tend to try and figure out how God will answer our prayers, we imagine in our minds the way we would like Him to work, but He seldom works in ways that seem logical to us. The reason for this is clear. When God answers prayer through His supernatural methods He receives all the Glory. God has worked a wonderful work in my life, and only He can receive the Glory for it. He deserves all Honor, Glory and Praise for always keeping His great promises.

    Are you suffering financially and emotionally due to the effects of our current economy? If you are a child of God you can rest assured that He is working out a means and method to provide for you. Stand firmly, by faith, upon His promises of provision. He will be providing a miracle for your life very soon. When life seems a vain effort. When it seems there is no way out. When we are tired, weary and worn. That's when God can work His "magic", His wonderful work of Grace that will provide our needs both physically and spiritually. As we earnestly seek Him, and obey His Word, God will always work a miracle in our lives.

"God gives every bird a worm, but he does not throw it into the nest." - Swedish Proverb

Heb 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Let your Faith guide through these trying times and God will provide for all of your needs. May God grant you Peace and Joy in the midst of troubles.

    We cannot repair our broken economy until we know the root cause for the current crisis. Many in government and the media are grasping at a way to temporarily place a patch on the economic crisis no matter what the cost. It is my position that we cannot simply treat the symptoms of an ailing economy. We must diagnose the real cause so that we may have a permanent impact on it.

    In many religions around the world, bad character traits or habits are described as being demons. One may speak of a person's inability to control their consumption of alcohol as the demon of alcoholism. Throughout the ages, people with mental illness were thought to be possessed by a demon. This may not be a completely accurate view of what a demon is and how they work but there is certainly an apt association of sin and it's consequences that may be described by similar distinction. The root cause of our current economic crisis may indeed be attributed to the "demon" of Greed. However, I do not wish to confuse anyone by using the word demon, I will therefore use words like beast or monster. This description will work better and is less confusing to those who do not understand that a demon is simply a fallen angel that has aligned themselves with Satan. Therefore, on the premise that Greed is a Monster that has the ability to destroy a person, a community or even an entire nation, I will now speak about this horrible beast and what it has done to our nation.

    The greed of corporate America has caused a great calamity to befall us. This becomes more and more apparent as congress and the senate search for a possible way to repair our broken economy. As hard as they may try, we will not see the benefits of any solution for a distant time to come. We cannot completely repair a broken economy until we ascertain the cause. Corporate greed has been and continues to be at the root of our current crisis. Until small to medium sized businesses are able to wrestle back some level of control over corporate giants, we will all suffer under their tyrannical rule. Large corporations have stolen the means and method by which most small businesses are able to sustain themselves. The evidence of greed and lack of concern for small business can be clearly seen whenever a corporation decides to open a new outlet in any given geographical area. We can watch as a dozen small businesses fold whenever a superstore opens it's doors to the public. Large chains of stores that allow you to buy directly from a manufacturer instead of buying those same products from your friends and neighbors in small businesses. This always has the stench of greed. I can't remember the exact words, but last week a politician proclaimed that it was our patriotic duty to dig deep into our pockets, and bail out corporate America. How dare he even speak such words. We have already paid our debt in taxes, insurance and finance charges. They dug the hole, let them fill it. We would not be in this mess if it weren't for the selfishness and greed of those corporations that placed us in peril. And yet, it is our selfish greed that has spawned the corporate beast. That's correct you and I have spawned this monster through our desire to save money on products. This is the mechanism that spawned the corporate beast, it is our own desire for selfish gain. And the monster could not continue to exist without our help. Every time we choose to shop at a super-store or factory outlet, we feed the beast a little more. As it grows it continues to devour our economy. But we pretend ignorance, and proclaim our outrage, that our government did nothing to protect us from it. The government did not spawn this monster of greed, how can we expect the government to save us from ourselves. We live in a republic which allows us freedom of choice, and we continue to choose to feed the beast.

    I am old enough to remember a time when manufacturers would only sell products through small business. This was a time of shared wealth in America. It was a practice by which every community was able to share in part of the wealth. There used to be an attitude of integrity and a willingness to allow small business to share in the overall wealth of our great nation. No self respecting company would even think of bypassing their retailers in order to keep all the profits to themselves. It used to be common practice for corporations to establish joint ventures and affiliations with local small business so that both parties could benefit. It was thought to be absolutely anti-business to go over a retailer's head, and directly sell your products, in order to make a bigger profit. Many retailers were specialty stores that were the only ones allowed to carry a certain line of products within a geographical area. In fact you may have been the only retailer for a manufacturers product in your home town. Retailers were loyal to the manufacturer and customers were loyal to a retailer that exhibited integrity. Things have certainly changed for the worse. Corporations have dealt a death blow to distributors, dealers and retailers throughout the United States. To top that off, they want to add to their profit margins by using cheap foreign labor in the manufacture of far too many items. Corporations have virtually stripped small and medium sized business of their ability to sell any item and make a profit. Factory direct stores are popping up all over, and robbing retailers of their fair share of the profit. With the current crises our financial institutions are enduring, they now threaten to take even more out of our ability to run a business, by removing a retailer's ability to receive or offer financing. The beast of greed has grown beyond reason. To structure a business model solely upon profit margin removes people from the equation. If you were a manufacturer, would you rather have one sales person that makes you ten dollars in direct profit, or one thousand retailers that make you one dollar each in profit. I would choose one thousand dollars in profit over ten dollars any day of the week. But the monster of greed has lost it's ability to be reasonable. No wonder our economy is in such crisis.

    We need to consider the cost of our own greed. Our desire to save a few dollars by buying directly from the manufacturer is the catalyst that closes the door on small business and costs people their jobs. Would you be willing to spend a few dollars more on a product to insure that your spouse keeps their job or your neighbors retail store stays open. Consider the toll that greed and selfishness has taken on our society. It has cost us our wealth, our livelihood and our integrity as a nation. Other nations that used to look to America as a model for their economy, now look upon us with disdain due to the overwhelming harm we have done to the world through greed. The time has come for us to take steps that will insure the demise of this monster called greed. A first small step may be to seriously consider boycotting these super-stores, direct stores and outlets. When we shop at these places, we pay a horrible premium in humanity under the disguise of saving some money. A product may cost you a few dollars more when you buy it from local small businesses, but the price is worth the reward. What is more important, people or products? Shop locally from people in your own community and you will help stores stay open, you will help people keep their jobs and you may well help our nation to come back from the brink of economic extinction.

    Jesus said these words; "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul"? Consider the human cost when you want to save a few dollars. We are not just speaking of dollars and cents, we are speaking of the livelihood and well-being of human souls. Those souls that we love and care about are harmed each time that we choose to shop at these greed machines.

    We can only pray that this will be a wake up call for all of America. We need to re-build our American labor force and be willing to share our wealth with small business. We need to re-establish "made in the USA" as the quality standard for all other nations in the world to follow. We need to become self sufficient for raw materials needed to manufacture our goods and let American hands assemble them. We need to use our own plentiful wind, solar, coal and natural gas to power our nation, and keep our wealth for the people of our own nation. If we don't, we will continue to see greed strip away the remainder of our wealth and morals, until there is nothing of value that remains.

    We cannot allow government to slap a band-aid onto the gaping, infected wound of our economy. Greed has become the driving force in our economy, and it reflects in the thoughts and attitudes of our children and grand-children. We need to stop this monster before it devours our Country. Some may ask how we would even attempt such a monumental task. The answer lies in America's core values. We need to repent of this evil and return the the core values that built this nation. We need to be unashamed to say "In God We Trust"! When you start at that position, the only way to build is up. Our economy is a reflection of our character whether we like it or not. Rebuilding our character will lead us to the path that we must now follow. We are American citizens, and we do not need the government to pass legislation that simply puts the beast on life support, we have the power of government within us, and our destiny is in our own hands. It is the power of choice. If we recognize the beast for what it is, then we already know what needs to be done. We simply allow the beast to consume itself. It has grown far too large for us to feed it any longer. Let it consume itself and we will rebuild upon the remains of it's carcass. We will build a new unselfish America, that has the genuine concern for our fellow citizens at it's core.

    I cannot content myself to say nothing when the need is so great and the consequences are already at hand. Please join me in support of mankind. God loves us and wants us to profit in business but not at the expense of human souls. People will always be more important than products and the price of a product can never attest to it's true value. The most valuable product on earth is a person's soul. Greed is like a machine that has no soul and therefore it has no value or purpose. We have a soul, and that is to be treasured above all things. We can judge the value of the human soul by the price God has paid to redeem it. He shed his own blood to redeem our soul from all sin. That includes salvation from selfishness and greed.

There is certainly no shortage of web sites that offer you a way to work from home. However, many of these so called opportunities offer nothing more than an illusion of an honest and legitimate business. Do we really have to give up our Integrity to make money on the Internet? With so many scams getting top billing in sponsored search results and even appearing as legit Biz Ops on reputable Job Listings it is easy to get disillusioned about setting up and operating an online business that is honest and will provide your needs and meet your expectations. But don't give up just yet, there are still a multitude of online businesses that you can participate in and still maintain your principles.

    Many innocent and otherwise intelligent people get scammed on the Internet each and every day. Most of the people I know who have "swallowed the bait", are people of reasonable to exceptional intelligence. High IQ or good common sense is no deterrent to getting scammed. There are so many illegitimate scams and frauds online that offer an illusion of success, but only deliver empty promises and broken dreams. I refer to these scam business opportunities as "Bastard" web sites. They have no traceable long-term history of ownership (no father or mother), and can disappear as quickly as they came. When they have exhausted a fresh supply of "suckers", they will disappear off the grid, only to re-manifest as a web site with a different name, but the same message and marketing letter. Their only purpose for existence is to separate people from their money. These web-sites have no real product to sell, they do not provide a reasonable service, and yet, they are so proficient at selling something that doesn't exist. The owner of such a web site is often touted as an expert of some sort, but you would be hard pressed to find background on them. My question is this; How do we separate the wheat from the chaff as it were? How do we tell the difference from a legitimate opportunity and a scam? I think I can speak to this subject with some authority because life on the Internet is no different from life outside the Internet. Whether online or offline, if you live long enough, you will be scammed by someone. Many times in life, the deception of others, costs us more than just money. We often are scammed by the people we closest to, and even though we have their best interest at heart, they have no regard for what they are about to do to us. I believe myself to be a sensible person, but my family and friends have taken advantage of me far more often than I have been fooled by a stranger. This is indeed disheartening, but by no means am I ready to write off all of humanity, simply because of the selfish motives of a few people who managed to get past my defenses. If you are presently seeking a legitimate, online business model that you are truly ready to invest your time, talent, and money into, consider a few key elements, that will minimize the possibility and pain of taking the wrong bait... Hook, line and sinker.

    Firstly, let us consider what a legitimate business is. An honest and forthright business provides a tangible and needed product or service for real people. A legitimate business exists to fill a need in the community. Admittedly, sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between a real need and that which is simply a desire, but that is for the consumer to consider, and is not the responsibility of the business. For example: Often in life, we seek out a product that we feel we need, but if the truth were told, most men don't really Need another expensive tool for their collection, and most women don't Need another pair of shoes for their closet. So, Whether a need is real or perceived, a business is there to fill the order. I don't know any person that actually Needs a Video Game Console, and yet it is a multi-billion dollar industry, and anyone would be foolish not to sell video games based on the fact that it is not a "Real Need". Although it is not a real need, it is a tangible product or service that is offered to real people.

    Next we need to consider the source of the opportunity. Is web site or person that is making this offer to you readily accessible. If it is a legitimate opportunity, there will usually be a contact page where you will find the name of the company or individual, along with a telephone number or a valid email address. If you see a mailing address and profile information, that is a very good indicator that the opportunity is legitimate. This will allow you to contact a real person with your questions about the opportunity that is represented, by telephone or email. Most Scam opportunities will only have one marketing page with a sales pitch that makes outrages claims, but no way to find out any further information. Most bastard sites will also have a disclaimer at the bottom of the page that states how your results may vary. For example: If the web site sales pitch claims you will make $6,000.00 in 6 days, you can usually click on the disclaimer link where you will be told that everything they claim in the sales pitch, may not really work as advertised.

    About those Outrages Claims. If it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Watch out for key phrases such as those that promise you a certain amount of money in a certain period of time. No one can deliver on a promise that you will make $1,000.00 in one day (or any combination thereof). I have learned that "completely duplicateable system" usually only applies to the person making the claim. Also be wary when there is too much use of outrages adjectives. "Recliner Millionaire", "Secret", or "Instant Cash", should set off some kind of alarm in our head (however often we choose to ignore it). Many of these sites will also offer to "train you", they neglect to tell you that the training and advice you receive will be outdated and unusable. Any legitimate work offer should come with some training, make sure the training you will receive comes from both online or printed resources and most importantly, a real person that is willing to help you get going. If the training is "online only", be wary. Another outrages claim is that you can put this business on "autopilot". In other words, they will claim that once you set up "the system", whatever that system is, that you will not have so spend any more time, energy or money to keep it going. A legitimate business opportunity offers real work, and you should expect to have to dig in and work your butt off, before you begin to see any profit. It does not matter what anyone claims, you must be expected and willing to work hard to gain success. There is No Easy Way to Success! We all know this to be true, but sometimes we briefly allow ourselves to be deluded by a promise of fast and easy money, only to end up ashamed of ourselves for becoming a victim. And by no means should we have to victimize other people to reach our goals.

    "There is no such thing as a FREE puppy". This saying is true and reliable. Whenever you see the word FREE, you should know that something will be required of you. In Internet language, "Free" usually means "Trade" or "Trap". Sometimes following up on a Free offer is simply exchanging our email address for some information, which will result in some unsolicited emails (or spam). Sometimes Free can cost us our money and our integrity. It is important to research each "Free" offer, and see what the real cost is going to be. You should also know that there is an entire network of legitimate online business-people who exchange, barter or trade, by using the word Free. This is fine as long as you know who you are dealing with and are willing to trade your effort, product or service for the same from another person. This is where you can honestly and openly trade for a valuable product or service. These exchanges are called Joint Ventures (where you work with another business to achieve a common goal, or Affiliate opportunities, where you trade something like space on your web site to promote another persons product or service for a sales commission or more traffic to your site (It is useless to have a web site, unless people look at it, and buy your product or hire your services). Trading is an integral part and portion of doing business online, and there is nothing under-handed about it, unless the trade is not of equal value, and someone gets the short end of the stick. Don't be afraid to trade and barter with other online business owners (especially to share and exchange site links), it can save you some time and money and bring visitors to your web business, if you trade with an honest person. I always try to do some background research on other sites, even if we are just exchanging services to our mutual benefit. It can save you some heartache later down the road.

    Finally, an online business opportunity is an offer for work. No matter how much research you have done, no matter how well you have matched the opportunity to your skills and talents, there will always be something about the JOB that you will not like doing. If we enjoyed everything we did at our job, we would not call it work, we would call it play. If you think about it, I'm sure you'll agree that even that which we call play, has some element of work involved with it. If you love to ride dirt bikes, you probably don't enjoy cleaning and maintaining your motorcycle. There will always be something in any opportunity that you will not enjoy doing, make sure you balance that with a majority of things that you would really enjoy working at. Research the possibilities, decide on one that you are comfortable with, and work hard like you would at any other job, and you can realize your dream of having an online business without getting scammed.

    To complete this article, I need to write a little bit more. There can be many reasons for desiring to operate an online business. Usually the reason is that something has changed in your life, and out of necessity, you are seeking a means of providing an income with more flexible hours. Have you, or someone you care for, been diagnosed with a chronic illness? Has the economy affected your present job so that you simply are not making enough money? Are you just tired of the stress and politics surrounding your present job? Or maybe you need to be able to work from home. We usually seek opportunities out of necessity. As for me, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia about fifteen years ago, and it is extremely difficult to find a job that can accommodate my physical limitations. So I started seeking out a way to work that would allow me the freedom to just vegetate on the days that I don't feel well enough to work. From a Christian perspective and as a Minister and Pastor of a small Church that cannot afford to pay me, I sought out Gods' Will for a business that I could operate, that would allow me to maintain my integrity. I often have people ask my advice on how to find God's Will for their business life. The Bible has very clear principles that we are to adhere to, if we want to be successful (blessed). It really can be summed up in just a few words. God does not really care what kind of work you do as long as you do it as if you were working directly for Him. Put your head and heart into your work and always do the best you can possibly do. Help other people to become successful, and you will become successful (seek a business that will allow you to do this). Treat your clients with the same respect and dignity that you believe you deserve. Always give one tenth of your income to your local Church, so God can bless you with abundance.

    I have been scammed a couple of times in the process of testing out different business opportunities. I have learned to research and investigate using alexa, whois, and searching for complaints against a person or company. I have learned to stay away from one page web sites that make an outrages claims. I have learned that Free never means free (there's always a trade off). I have learned that every failure has taught me valuable lessons that I would not have learned any other way. The most important thing I have learned is to simply choose a legitimate opportunity and work it. Use all the tools and helps you can, find affiliate and joint-venture opportunities. Work your business patiently and persistently, and even though it may take awhile, you can find success as an Online Business-person without getting scammed or scamming other people. There are many opportunities to be had, and many of them take very little money to start, but you can expect to spend your time, talents, energy and money to achieve any level of success so choose an opportunity that suits you well, and you will be happy to do the work. Use your instinct and common-sense to avoid being a victim. Don't let yourself get Caught Swallowing the Bait- Hook, Line and Sinker.
